It was a breezy Saturday morning. I was taking a walk to make a stop at my favourite Mr Raju’s ‘nasi lemak’ stall before heading to an extra class. I was in a cloud nine after receiving my food to fuel the day. As I was getting my change, the sound of a loud brake screeching and a bang were vibrating through the air. I almost dropped my change from the astonishment. There was an accident happened just a few meters away from the stall!
Within minutes, onlookers were already crowding the place of the event. I also joined to witness the unfortunate scene. I saw a guy in his brand new car took a huge hit on the back of a school bus. Mr Raju quickly made a call to the authorities while the other guys were trying to rescue the unconscious man in the car. Due to the terrible crumple of the black Sedan, they were not able to take him out. People were getting scared as the smoke of the car was getting thicker and thicker. We were warned to stand afar.
Luckily, the firefighters arrived along with the ambulance. As fast as lightning, the heroic firemen used multiple tools to get the poor guy out and quickly put him on a stretcher. He was then sent to the hospital. Policemen also arrived to secure and jot details of the scene. Investigations were done and it turns out, the guy was unconscious due to non stop working at night. He rushed home to see his family yet he couldn’t make it. Thankfully he is now safe and sound in the hospital and there were no one in the school bus except the driver since it was a Saturday! The driver was also fine and the bus was able to claim the insurance. After awhile, the crowds dispersed and I continued my journey to my extra class feeling a bit gloomy.
Accidents like this could be avoided if we take safety precautions seriously. Drivers should not be driving if they feel like their eyes are as heavy as a stone. They should take a rest at the nearest stop before hitting the road again. With this, accidents will not happen and everyone will reach their destination unharmed.
Read importance of roads
One rainy day last year, while I was returning home from Mersing, a town in the east coast of Malaysia, I witnessed an accident which I shall never forget.
I was returning home in my father’s car. It was raining heavily and the road therefore could not be seen clearly. My father, an old man, was driving slowly to avoid an accident. The journey seemed longer than usual, which made me begin to feel tired.
All of a sudden, a small car ran at great speed, overtaking us. My father was shocked at the recklessness of the driver of the car. We could not count the number of persons in the car, but were sure that there were at least five, including two children. My father at once predicted that tragedy would befall the occupants of the car. After the prediction, I began to grow impatient. I did not wish to see any horrific scene resulting from accident. Although the car had gone quite far away from us, its rear lights could still be seen.
In the distance, there was a narrow bridge. Looking at the way the car was running, I too was now sure that an accident would come.
A lorry was coming from the other side of the bridge. It was already on the bridge. The driver of the small car, however, could not slow down in time. He lost control of the car which skidded and plunged into the river. Somehow, the driver managed to slip out of the car. The others however were doomed. When we arrived at the bridge, we were touched deeply by what we saw. Two children were struggling in the river and we could do nothing to save them. Their mother, as we came to know later, was at the bottom of the river, trapped in the car. They were swept away by the rush of the current and drowned. The driver, father of the children, began to cry piteously because of the death of the wife and children. He had lost them so suddenly.
It was indeed a very touching scene that I shall never forget.
A frightful accident I have seen
Notes:Saw fast running car – Soon car hit tree – Caught fire – driver hurt – could not open door – heard frightful screams – Fire grew bigger – No more screams – Driver burnt to death – Felt very sad – Cannot forget accident.
One evening I saw a car running at great speed. I knew at once that it would soon be involved in an accident.
As expected, the car had not gone very far when it went off the road and hit a tree. At once the car was on fire.
The driver was hurt so badly that he could not open the door of his car. Then I heard some frightful screams.
By now a big crowd had collected round the car; but no one could help the unfortunate man in the car. It was dangerous to go too near to the burning car.
The fire grew bigger. There were no more screams. The driver was burnt to death. I felt very sad after that. Indeed I cannot forget the accident.
